The critical role of multilevel inverters, particularly Voltage Source Inverters, in the efficient integration and transmission of solar energy into the electrical grid is evident from the challenges and system application needs discussed.
Moreover, the inverters are interconnected in parallel with PV cells, facilitating power conversion in a singular-stage configuration. In the traditional structure of solar power plants, inverters and low-frequency transformers are utilized as an interface between PV panels and the AC grid for power transmission.
In large-scale applications such as PV power plants, "high-power" in medium voltage (MV) inverters is characterized by the use of multilevel inverters to enhance efficiency and scalability. These high-power MV systems generally function within a power range of 0.4 MWâ40 MW, and in certain applications, can reach up to 100 MW.
The inverter phase currents are sinusoidal, balanced, and demonstrate stable operation, indicating effective modulation and control strategies. The THD of the inverter current is impressively low at 0.64 %, which ensures reduced power losses, high power quality, and compliance with grid regulations.
Photovoltaic (PV) power generation systems are emerging as a key solution for addressing environmental challenges while satisfying the growing global demand for energy [1, 2]. These systems are highly regarded among renewable energy technologies for their versatility and sustainability.
The proposed system alleviates the leakage current, grid current harmonics, RMS value, number of CMV transitions, and dv / d t of the CMV. The performance of the proposed inverter has been evaluated and compared with several other systems in literature.
