WINDHOEK, Sept. 9 (Xinhua) -- Namibia's state-owned power utility, NamPower, on Monday signed an engineering, procurement, and construction contract with a Chinese joint venture for the 100MW Rosh Pinah Solar PV power plant.
With these conditions, Namibia has a huge potential for installing solar water heaters, solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, and concentrated solar power (CSP) plants . Namibia's most common PV technology application is solar PV-based pumping, which is mainly used in cattle farms .
NamPower, on Monday did signing on the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract with a Chinese joint venture for the development of Namibia's Largest Solar Plant project, the 100MW Rosh Pinah Solar PV Power Plant.
This mega solar project will support Namibia's efforts to enhance its renewable energy infrastructure and is expected to greatly contribute to the country's general electricity supply security and also its sustainability goals.
Known as SunCentral, Phase 1 of this project will total approximately 342MW in generation capacity, with Phases 2 and 3 bringing the overall size to an impressive 1 GW therfore making it one of the largest projects of its kind in South Africa. “A project of this kind of magnitude wouldn't have been possible without the power of partnerships.
