These rules, notified by the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change (MoEF&CC), are designed to reduce emissions from power generation engines and will probably come into effect from July 1, 2025. The new standards set stringent limits on emissions from diesel generators (DG sets) and engines used for power generation up to 800 kW.
Typically, the diesel generator emission standards aim at reducing the amount of the following diesel engine emissions. 1. Nitrogen oxides (NOx): Nitrogen oxides are one of the main pollutants emitted by diesel generators, and they mainly result from the high temperature during the combustion process.
The CPCB DG Set Emission Standards are regulations set by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) to control the emission of harmful pollutants from diesel generators (DG sets) in India. These standards limit the amount of nitrogen oxides (NOx), carbon monoxide (CO), particulate matter (PM), and hydrocarbons (HC) that DG sets can emit.
Diesel Engines. Engines using alternate fuels (dedicated, bi-fuel, and dual-fuel systems). The updated CPCB DG set emission standards may be mandatory for all new gensets from July 1, 2025. Manufacturers, importers, and assemblers must ensure compliance with these norms to avoid penalties.
2. It is certified that the above mentioned Generator Set model(s) comply with the emission limits applicable for Gasoline, dedicated NG or LPG or Bio-CNG or BI fuel- gasoline and NG/LPG/Bio-CNG fuel run genset, as prescribed under the following rules notified by Ministry of Environment & Forest and Climate Change, Govt. of India:
All new prime power and portable diesel generators should be manufactured to meet this tier requirement. European emission standards for engines used in new non-road mobile machinery (NRMM) have been structured as gradually more stringent tiers known as Stage I...V standards.
